Andre Thigpen Jr., 22, will remain in jail without bail after a Henderson court appearance Tuesday, Oct. 27, on two counts of open murder.
Thigpen is accused of fatally shooting a 32-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Center Street, near Lake Mead Parkway and Warm Springs Road, on the morning of Friday, Oct. 23. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Henderson police.
A judge appointed a public defender to represent Thigpen during the hearing. He waived his right to a speedy preliminary hearing, Fox 5 Las Vegas reported.
A status check hearing is set for Dec. 1.
How the arrest unfolded
Henderson police said officers responded to the apartment complex at approximately 7 a.m. Oct. 23 and found the two victims with gunshot wounds. A 911 caller reported seeing a man flee the apartment and drive away after gunshots were heard, according to Fox 5's earlier coverage.
Shortly after, a vehicle matching the suspect's description crashed on Lake Mead Parkway near Lake Las Vegas Parkway. Police identified Thigpen, who was seen running from the vehicle, and took him into custody after a brief search.
Thigpen was booked on two counts of open murder and charges related to a hit-and-run. Police said he is a family member of one of the victims. Both victims lived in the apartment complex, according to police.
As of the Oct. 23 police report, the Clark County Coroner's Office had not released the victims' names, pending next-of-kin notification.
Police said he is a family member of one victim, but the specific relationship has not been detailed in public statements.
Thigpen's next scheduled court date is Dec. 1.
