Henderson families looking to send their children to a school outside their assigned zone have until Jan. 12, 2027, to apply.
The Clark County School District (CCSD) opened applications Oct. 5 for three school choice programs covering the 2027-2028 school year: open enrollment, magnet programs and the Central Technical Training Academy. All three share the same deadline of 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, according to the district's open enrollment page.
Superintendent Jhone Ebert encouraged families to explore their options, saying there is a CCSD school for every child regardless of interests or talents, as Fox 5 reported.
What's available
Open enrollment lets students attend a CCSD school outside their assigned attendance zone, as long as that school has seats. The district posts a list of eligible schools online. Transportation is not provided for open enrollment students.
Several Henderson-area schools appear on the 2027-2028 eligibility list, including Coronado High School, Green Valley High School, Silverado High School, Greenspun, Barbara and Hank Junior High School and Del E. Webb Middle School.
Magnet programs cover specialized themes such as International Baccalaureate, performing and creative arts, STEM, and leadership and communications. Unlike open enrollment, busing is available inside designated magnet transportation zones. Details on requirements are posted on the CCSD Magnet Schools website.
The Central Technical Training Academy accepts applications from incoming 11th and 12th graders seeking career training in construction and manufacturing.
How to apply
Families apply online through the CCSD School Choice Application system. Each student may apply to up to five schools or programs total, according to the district. No more than three applications may go to any single category.
If a school gets more applications than it has open seats, a lottery determines placement. Students not selected stay in an alternate pool and may receive an offer if a seat opens. The district fills seats through the 10th day of the school year.
One important rule: once a family accepts a seat, all other applications for that student are automatically declined.
Students who win a spot through open enrollment can stay at that school through its highest grade level. A new application is required when moving from elementary to middle school or middle to high school.
Magnet schools fair
Families can meet school representatives in person at a magnet schools fair Saturday, Nov. 14, at South Career and Technical Academy. The event runs 9 a.m. to noon.
Applications submitted after Jan. 12 fall into an "on time" window running March 22 through Aug. 20, 2027, at 3 p.m., according to the district's open enrollment page.
