Clark County School District students can now see a doctor virtually and receive over-the-counter medication at school at no cost to families through a partnership with Hazel Health.

The district announced the program in a post on X on Oct. 30, saying families have "quick access to licensed health care and can see a doctor in a matter of minutes." CCSD followed up with a second post on Nov. 2 describing the services as virtual medical care, over-the-counter medicine and call-in prescriptions.

At least one Henderson school is already using the program. A Greenspun Junior High School newsletter dated Oct. 30 told families that Hazel Health is available to all students both online and in the school health office. Students who visit the health office can talk to a doctor and receive approved over-the-counter medication, the newsletter said.

How it works

A school health staff member or a parent can request an on-demand visit, according to Hazel Health's CCSD page. Within minutes, a student connects with a Hazel clinician. The company says 9 of 10 students return to class after a visit, based on its own post-visit staff documentation. If needed, a clinician may recommend medication or further in-person evaluation.

After a visit, families receive a discharge summary detailing the care provided.

To enroll, parents create an account, complete a consent form and submit insurance information if applicable, according to the Hazel Health page. The Greenspun newsletter directs families to a CCSD-specific consent form. Services begin as soon as the form is completed.

Cost and insurance

CCSD's posts describe the program as available "at no cost" to families. Hazel Health's CCSD page explains the billing model: when families provide insurance information, Hazel bills the insurer. A portion of the fee the district pays Hazel as a platform fee covers any out-of-pocket expenses insurance does not pay.

Having insurance information also helps Hazel coordinate referrals and order prescriptions, according to the company's CCSD page.

Mental health services

CCSD's mental health resources page lists Hazel Health as a "CCSD-sponsored agency that provides virtual therapy sessions at school or home." The Hazel Health CCSD page says therapy students connect securely with a therapist each week, during school or from home. Hazel's provider network includes bilingual clinicians representing more than 30 languages.

Parents who want to sign up can visit the Hazel Health CCSD page or contact their child's school health office for the consent form.
